Ligno-Scanner SD

The Ligno-Scanner SD is a dual-depth pinless moisture meter, easy to use and self calibrating. The dual-depth meter has 2 independent sets of calibrations, one for measuring 1/4″ deep and one for measuring 3/4″ deep. Dual-depth settings are available for all wood species settings and the reference scale, an advantage over standard pinless meters, which have a fixed 3/4″ measuring depth.

This unique dual-depth pinless moisture meter adds versatility whether you are woodworking, manufacturing furniture, installing floors or working a restoration job

Dual-depth – a new approach to scanning – works well for:

  • Different board thicknesses, over 3/4″ and boards thinner than 3/4″
  • Floor testing at 1/4″ depth assures only the floor planks are measured and not the concrete or subfloor underneath.
  • Engineered panels and floor planks, measuring top layer and overall product
  • Compare surface / core moisture to check if boards are dried evenly.
  • Check surface moisture after water damage or after applying  waterborne finishes.

Proven technology and quality design have given pinless meters from Lignomat a great reputation. You can always count on accuracy, reliability and consistency – today, tomorrow, in a year, for you and your associates elsewhere.

Product Description

Ligno-Scanner SD – dual-depth pinless Moisture Meter

Lignomat’s unique measuring technology for dual-depth pinless moisture meters assures calibration accuracy, reliability and repeatability. Measuring dual-depth 1/4″ and 3/4″.

The Ligno-Scanner SD dual-depth pinless moisture meter indicates true wood moisture percentages corrected for different wood species. Wood species and corresponding settings are listed on a laminated species card included with each moisture meter. Wood species corrections can also be custom-programmed by entering the specific gravity between 0.3 and 1.0. A reference scale has been added to allow comparing different moisture levels in laminates and building materials, useful when searching for high moisture levels in walls, ceilings and floors after water damage.

Another pinless advantage: Pinless moisture meters from Lignomat measure lower moisture contents than pin meters for hardwoods. A great advantage for the flooring industry in areas of low relative humidity and high desert climate zones.

Calibration Stability: The Ligno-Scanner SD moisture meter has proven to be a trustworthy meter, which produces the same accurate moisture percentages today, tomorrow and in a year due to internal calibration checks. The calibration is checked before each measurement and if necessary, automatically adjusted. These “background checks” before measurements assure calibration consistency for every reading for Lignomat’s pinless moisture meters. Manual recalibration by the customer is not necessary. Lignomat offers an external calibration check block TS to confirm the accuracy of the moisture meter.

Operation: Pinless moisture meters from Lignomat are easy to use.  The large display indicates wood species settings, measuring depth and moisture percentages with a resolution of 0.1%. Push buttons are clearly marked. A HOLD function is available for measuring in places where the display cannot be seen or when taking photos of the display. All Lignomat moisture meters are covered by a two-year warranty.

When selecting the right Ligno-Scanner for your application consider measuring depth and materials you want to measure.

Measuring Depth: The measuring depth is crucial for all pinless moisture meters. Most pinless moisture meters are calibrated for a product thickness of 3/4″, which allows measuring products between 3/4″ and 1.5″ thick (if both sides are accessible for measurements). That presents a problem for thinner products. With the dual-depth Ligno-Scanner SD you can measure all products from veneer up to 1.5″ thick.

If you would measure products thinner than 3/4″ with a measuring depth of 3/4″, the indicated value is wrong. For products thinner than 3/4″, which are laying on a solid surface (concrete, sub floor, work table), measurements could be too high, because the solid surface is included in the measurements. If thinner products are measured with an air space underneath, measurements will be too low, because not enough material is underneath the measuring plates. The 1/4″ depth gives accurate measurements for products 5/8″ or less . Even veneer can be measured.

The moisture meter is sensitive to surface moisture and for that reason it is ideal to check waterborne finishes between coatings or to check dryness of surfaces after industrial cleaning.

Many materials other than wood products can be checked to determine different moisture levels. Higher values indicate more moisture. When measuring wood, the Ligno-Scanner SD moisture meter gives accurate moisture readings in percent corrected for different wood species.
