Product Description
All Lignomat meters check the calibration automatically, internally before each reading is displayed to assure reliability and accuracy. The first step in taking accurate measurements is to be sure the meter is functioning properly.
If you want to prove to yourself or to a third party, that the meter is calibrated correctly, you need to use the external pinless test block TS.
It is sufficient to check one calibration setting. For Lignomat pinless meters, that is setting #50. All other corrections are done mathematically by different algorithms. Therefore, if you have checked the calibration for one setting, you have checked all settings.
The pinless test block consists of a selected material, which produces a certain value when taking a reading on setting number 50 for both settings 1/4″ and 3/4″ depth. The same block can be used to check the calibration of all Lignomat pinless meter, the Ligno-Scanners, the Ligno-DuoTec BW and the Ligno-VersaTec. The blocks vary in the moisture value they indicate. But the same block gives the same value for all Lignomat pinless meters. The correct value is printed on the back of each block. The permissible range is +/-1%.
The internal calibration check only checks the circuitry. With the external check block, an actual measurement is performed to confirm the accuracy of the calibration.
In addition to using the test block, we recommend a manual check for open and closed circuits:
Open circuit check: Choose code # 50. Hold the meter in the air to make sure no material is touching the measuring plates. When the READ key is pressed, a low moisture value of 5.4% should be indicated with SCAN/Min to the left side of the display. For 1/4” and the 3/4” depth the same value should appear.
Closed circuit check: Place the pinless meter on your forearm and press the READ key. A high moisture value should be indicated. An additional meter check can be performed by measuring a ream of paper. If the paper test is done repeatedly with the same setting, the indicated value should not vary significantly over the course of a year. This can be used to check consistency / accuracy of the pinless calibration.
If the calibration check with the test block or open or closed circuit checks fail either the battery needs to be replaced or the meter is defective. Call customer service 800-227-2105.
