Ligno-DuoTec BW

The Ligno-DuoTec BW features pinless, dual-depth mode – RH Thermometer mode and RH insitu concrete moisture testing – all in one meter. With the BW you can measure wood moisture and relative humidity, key factors in understanding and preventing moisture problems. Accessories are available for RH measurement and in-situ testing of moisture in concrete (ASTM F2170).

The meter has 2 independent sets of calibrations to measure 1/4″ and 3/4″ deep: for wood, engineered panels, floors and bamboos, concrete (ASTM F2659), drywall and reference scales for other building materials.

Dual-depth – a new approach to scanning :

  • Measures different thicknesses: over 3/4″ and less than 3/4″.
  • Floor testing with 1/4″ depth assures only the floor planks are measured and not the concrete or subfloor underneath.
  • Measuring the top layer of engineered panels and floor planks accurately with the corresponding hardwood species correction.
  • Compares surface / core moisture to check if boards are dried evenly.
  • Checks surface moisture after water damage or after applying  waterborne finishes.

The right tool when installing and inspecting floors, manufacturing furniture and cabinets, and during water damage repair work. Smart, reliable and durable design have given pinless meters from Lignomat a great reputation.

Product Description

The Ligno-DuoTec BW moisture meter can be used as non-invasive, dual-depth moisture meter, a precision Thermo-Hygrometer and a concrete moisture meter for in-situ concrete moisture testing. The Ligno-DuoTec BW moisture meter provides precise moisture percentages, but the meter can also be used for quick-scanning areas for high and low moisture levels.

Corrections are built-in for

  • domestic and tropical wood species
  • OSB, sub floors, engineered floors
  • bamboo*
  • gypsum (sheetrock, drywall, wall boards).
  • reference scales tailored to the products to be measured: wood composites, laminated panels, vinyl, textile, lightweight building materials and heavy building materials such as concrete (ASTM F2659), tile, stone, etc.

* For the flooring industry: Lignomat developed a set of special calibrations different from wood calibrations to fit bamboo (horizontal, vertical, strand and engineered).

The concrete moisture meter provides for pinless and RH measurements. Two flat measuring plates for pinless mode are mounted on the back of the moisture meter. Connector for RH mode is installed in the top of the meter: 3.5mm stereo jack to connect RH cable or RH adapter.

Calibration Stability: The Ligno-DuoTec BW moisture meter has proven to be a trustworthy concrete moisture meter. The calibration is checked internally before each measurement and if necessary, automatically adjusted. These “background checks” before measurements assure calibration consistency for every reading for Lignomat’s pinless moisture meters. Manual re-calibration by the customer is not necessary. Lignomat offers an external calibration check block TS for scan to confirm the accuracy and functionality of the meter.

Pinless Measurements
Lignomat’s unique pinless measuring technology assures calibration accuracy, reliability and dual-depth measuring capability, measuring depth 1/4″ and 3/4″. The meter indicates wood moisture in percent, corrected for 150 different settings. Specific gravity can also be entered to correct for different wood species, settings between 30-100 (0.3 – 1.0).

A pinless advantage: Pinless moisture meters from Lignomat measure lower moisture contents than pin moisture meters. A feature specifically valued by the flooring industry in areas with low relative humidity and high desert climate zones.

Reference Scales:  Reference scales are used in pinless mode to compare moisture levels, when measuring materials where a correction setting is unknown. This could be a flooring material, plastic and other materials used in the building envelope. Ref. scales are often used in the restoration and building industry to quickly detect different moisture levels and find areas with moisture problems.

The Ligno-DuoTec BW has a ref scale for concrete (ASTM F2659). Before performing in-situ probe testing in concrete, pinless measurements can find areas of high moisture levels where in-situ probes should be set. However, it is not the right method to determine, if a concrete slab is dry enough for resilient floor coverings to be installed. For more information go to the NWFA Installation Guidelines. For use of pinless meters see ASTM F2659.

Many materials other than wood products can be checked to determine different moisture levels. When measuring wood, the Ligno-DuoTec BW gives accurate moisture readings in percent corrected for different wood species.

Measuring Depth: The measuring depth is crucial for all pinless moisture meters. Most pinless moisture meters are calibrated for a product thickness of 3/4″, which allows measuring products between 3/4″ and 1.5″ thick (if both sides are accessible for measurements). That presents a problem for thinner products. With the dual-depth Ligno-DuoTec BW you can measure all products from veneer up to 1.5″ thick.

If you would measure products thinner than 3/4″ with a measuring depth of 3/4″, the indicated value is wrong. For products thinner than 3/4″, which are laying on a solid surface (concrete, sub floor, work table), measurements could be too high, because the solid surface is included in the measurements. If thinner products are measured with an air space underneath, measurements will be too low, because not enough material is underneath the measuring plates. The 1/4″ depth gives accurate measurements for products 5/8″ or less . Even veneer can be measured.

The meter is sensitive to surface moisture and for that reason it is ideal to check waterborne finishes between coatings or to check dryness of surfaces after industrial cleaning.

Options:

Measuring relative humidity: The Ligno-DuoTec meter functions as an RH meter or a thermo-hygrometer, when the RH BluePeg probe is connected. The RH BluePeg probe uses a single micro-chip sensing element, factory calibrated to NIST standard. The sensing elements were chosen for their precision and fast response time.

The meter measures and indicates:
– relative humidity
– ambient temperature
– grains per pound
– dew point temperature.

The Ligno-DuoTec BW meter has a 3.5mm stereo connector (jack) mounted in the top of the meter, where the RH probe can be connected. The connection is made via the RH adapter or a RH cable for remote measurements. If the reach of the probe has to be extended further, longer cables are available. The RH depth-adapter can be used to extend the length of the RH probe.

In-situ Probe Testing of Concrete
Adding RH BluePeg Probes, sleeves and RH-CC cable is needed for in-situ concrete moisture testing. Lignomat’s Bluepeg system complies with ASTM F2170 standard.

Advantages: The RH BluePeg probe drops easily into the sleeve. The cap fits perfectly and is as flat as can be. The 3.5mm stereo connector can be easily connected. No pin alignment of the cable needs to be fitted. Plug in and read, that’s what our customers like. All Lignomat RH equipment complies to the latest ASTM F2170 standard for RH in-situp probe.
