1979 Lignomat USA Ltd. started in 1979 selling moisture meters and kiln control equipment in the US. At first, all equipment was manufactured by Lignomat GmbH in Germany. It soon became obvious, that the US market required different equipment than the European market. Lignomat USA began developing moisture meters and kiln controllers made specifically for the US market. Today, we offer pin moisture meters and pinless moisture meters, moisture meters for concrete, lumber dry kiln controls and a variety of wireless monitoring devices for moisture and humidity conditions.
Our commitment to Quality and Service. The first pocket-size, low-cost moisture meter, the mini-Ligno was developed by German engineers in 1979. The mini-Lignos have been all-time favorites with over 200 000 units sold. The mini-Lignos still come in the same housing with the green cap. However, the electronic circuitry inside has been up-dated several times. The last up-date was completed just recently to increase accuracy when measuring the many different wood species and materials being used today. More calibration settings were added for the mini-Ligno DX/C to include Bamboo and some of the new engineered panels as well as a wider variety of domestic and tropical hardwoods. To increase versatility, sheetrock calibrations are included.
Introduction of Lignomat moisture meters to the woodworking community: we attended many Woodworking Shows to introduce the new mini-Ligno pocket-size moisture meters, at low cost, small but accurate and reliable. Often, we were asked: Why do I need a moisture meter? The sign we used then, is still true today.
Avoid shrinking, warping, delamination, loose joints and foggy finishes. Protect your work. Buy a moisture meter.
Do not waste time and money on wet wood.
Our first Moisture Problem Info Sheet was distributed in 1985 at woodworking shows and through mailings: “Wood Moisture Problems, Helpful Hints, Moisture Meters” click to view a copy.
We added 7 more mini-Ligno models since the introduction of the original mini-Ligno in 1979. All meters are built with the same high quality components, but offer the user different features. Prices range from about $95 to $199 for the meter. We offer mini-Lignos with pins and a connection for extension cables and hand probes.
Pin Moisture Meters – the mini-Ligno Series
Because of demand from our customers, we developed a series of pinless moisture meters in 2003. This included the first dual-depth pinless meter available. Since then, Lignomats pinless meters have gained industry recognition and are in use in all different industries where moisture measurements are an integral part of every job.
Pinless Moisture Meters – the Ligno-Scanner Series
- Dual-depth 1/4″ and 3/4″
- Unique to the Ligno-Scanners SD, SDM, BW
- Multiple built-in corrections for different wood species, bamboo, concrete
The ability to offer the dual-depth feature was made possible by the unique measuring technology. The dual-depth scanners can measure thin and thicker boards, top layer and overall moisture content, for applications such as measuring dryness of water-based finishes, etc. After both technologies were fully developed, we added a combination moisture meter for pin, pinless and RH technology to our line of products, the Ligno-VersaTec.
Relative Humidity and Temperature Measurement: Off the shelf thermo-hygrometers come in handy, but are often not very accurate. For increased accuracy we developed the RH BluePeg System. Since we always had hardwood floor installers as customers, we developed an RH sensor which can be used for measuring the moisture evaporation in concrete slabs. Click for Concrete Moisture with In-Situ RH Probes. Many tests have confirmed that this is a more reliable test than the Calcium Chloride test to avoid moisture problems in wood floor installed over concrete slabs.
For decades we have been offering monitoring devices utilizing Lignomat’s accurate measuring technology. Wireless and wirebound, on-site or over the Internet.
