Product Description
The first step in taking accurate measurements is to be sure the meter is functioning properly. To assure reliability and accuracy, all Lignomat meters check the calibration automatically, internally before each reading is displayed.
If you want to prove to yourself or to a third party, that the meter is calibrated correctly and every connection works from the tip of the pins to the meter, you need to use the external pin test block TP.
It is sufficient to check one calibration setting. For Lignomat pin meters, that is wood group number 3 or 103. All other wood group settings are done mathematically by different algorithms. Therefore, if you have checked the calibration for one setting, you have checked all settings.
The test block contains 2 resistors, which produce a reading for the Lignomat pin meters on wood group setting 3 or 103 of 12% and 20%. The permissible range is +/-1%.
In addition to using the test block, we recommend a manual check for open and closed circuits:
Open circuit check: Set the meter to pin mode, select code # 3 or 103 and a wood temperature of 70°F (where applicable). First check the meter only.
Test O: Turn the meter on and do not touch the pins or the connector, a low reading should come up.
For mini-Lignos the decimal point is blinking. For Ligno meters “Min” appears to the left side of the display.
If applicable, connect the cable. Do not touch the open cable end and repeat test O.
Next, connect the electrode. Do not touch the electrode pins and repeat test O
If the minimum or default moisture values cannot be confirmed at the first check, the meter is defective, at the second check the cable is defective, at the third check the electrode is defective.
Closed circuit check:
For mini-Lignos: Turn the meter on and touch both pins at the same time, a value above 12% should be indicated.
For mini-Lignos with electrode and Lignometer K and Ligno-VersaTec: Connect meter, cable and electrode. When the READ key is pressed and the metal tips of both pins are touched with two fingers, a reading higher than at least 12% should be indicated. If that is not the case, disconnect the electrode (electrode is defective). To check the cable, put your thumb on the open cable end. The cable is ok, if a reading higher than 12% is indicated.
If calibration check or open or closed circuit checks fail either the battery needs to be replaced or the meter, cable or electrode is defective. Call customer service 800-227-2105.
